Sanjay Kumar Jha is an Indian politician (born: 1 December 1967) belonging to the Janata Dal (United) political party. He is the current Minister (since June 2019) of Water Resources Department in the Government of Bihar led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is also the President of Janata Dal (United) abbreviated as JD (U).
JD(U) is an Indian political party withpresence mainly in eastern and north-easternIndia. JD(U) is recognised as a state party in the states of Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh.JD(U) won 16 seats in the 2019 Indian general election, making it the seventh largest party in the Lok Sabha. The party operates on the ideologies of socialism, secularism and integral humanism.
He was a member of the National Executive of BJP Youth Wing. During that period, he organized a seminar on International Terrorism at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, which was inaugurated by Bharat Ratna and then Prime Minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 1992 he started running a publishing house ‘Chandrika’. Several political and competition-related books have been published by this publication.
Jha started his active political career in 2004-05 and became Member of Legislative Council on 11 May 2006. His early political career was spent in close proximity of former Union Finance Minister, Late Arun Jaitley.
Environmental conservation has been on top of the agenda of Jha. His stint as Chairman of Standing Committee in 2011 on “Environment & Pollution Control” is a notable one when he convened the first state-level meet on the environment and climate change. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization, was a key speaker and guest at this meet.
In 2014 Jha unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election from Darbhanga constituency , before he became a member of Bihar State Planning Board in 2015.
